Moreover, the hotel can help arrange flight and trips to other destinations in Cambodia, such the capital city Phnom Penh, Preah Sihanouk Province, Kep, Kampot, Koh Kong (4 provinces of beautiful beaches).
Preah Vihear Temple has been listed and declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO on July 8, 2008. The Preah Vihear Temple is a Khmer temple situated at the top of Poy Tadi, a 525-metre (1720 ft) cliff in the Dangrek Mountains located in the Preah Vihear Province of northern Cambodia. The temple gives its name to Cambodia’s Preah Vihear province and is 140 km from Angkor Wat, approximately 320 km from Phnom Penh.
Preah Vihear Temple has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the Khmer Empire which lasted for six centuries. The temple is composed of a series of sanctuaries linked by a system of pavements and staircases over an 800 metre long axis and is built with a clear view of the plains from where it stands. Dedicated to Shiva, this temple is unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along a long north-south axis rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the east. However, although the structure of this temple is very different from the temple ‘mountains’ found at Angkor, it is believed to have been built to serve the same purpose as a stylized representation of Mount Meru, the home of the gods.
Banteay Chhmar is located in Banteay Meanchey Province in the Northwest of Cambodia, about 2-3 hours by car from Siem Reap. Banteay Chhmar has a lot to offer to interested visitors. That goes from visiting 12th century Angkorian Temples – the most famous one called Banteay Chhmar Temple, Pol Pot Baray, the silk center of Enfants du Mékong to getting an insight into rural life of the Cambodian countryside and its wildlife.
For 800 years, the temple has remained mostly undiscovered and untouched. The forces of nature resulting in overgrowth and collapse. Fortunately, things are improving as government and stakeholders are dedicating their time and effort to conserve the temples and improve livelihood of local community. Banteay Chhmar Temple is on Cambodia’s tentative list for submission as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The main temple at Banteay Chhmar is surrounded by 9 satellite temples in the nearby. Like the main temple, most of these temples have received very little study and documentation. Many are in ruins, but still intriguing to visit. The two most popular temples for picnics are Prasat (Temple) Ta Prohm and Prasat Samnang Tasok. Prasat Ta Prohm has excellent examples of the Bayon-style face towers. Prasat Samnang Tasok has more of a jungle feel to it, as it is surrounded by thick vegetation and a moat.
